Today was our weekday session with Kaylehi. As the science
experiment we had previously done with them had been so successful we had
planned another.
Trying to explain a chemical reaction was not impossible but
definitely a challenge. Making ‘Elephant
toothpaste” was our way to demonstrate.
We had plastic bottles with a 6% hydrogen peroxide and
dishwashing soap solution. We then mixed yeast with a little water and the result of combining the two was an explosion of foam.
To keep the first groups occupied whilst the rest completed
the experiment I started a call and answer.
Boom chicka boom
Boom chicka rocka
chicka rocka chicka boom
Oh yeah
Alright
One more time (in
a whisper, louder, silly voice etc)
This was met with laughter and enthusiasm although we
were unsure as to whether it was fully appreciated by the staff after realizing
that ‘chicki boom’ as the boys wanted to say could be misinterpreted as not
very child friendly so maybe we’ll put that one to bed!
We finished the session with some games of ‘Michael says’
(Simon says) and wink murder.
The boys were persistently asking today when we are
leaving forever; to soften the blow I decided it would be a fun time to tell
them that we are actually leaving in August to get married. This was met with a
response ‘to Michael to Michael?!’ with a lots of laughter, excitement and congratulations
that soon turned into a request of a party! So maybe on our last session we
will organize a leaving party of some sort with them.
