Sunday June 17th 2018

Another Sunday, time sure is flying by!

Today we met with both of the orphanages as has become our Sunday standard.  We repeated the magnetic slime project at the Seva Bharti Orphanage due its success at Kalyehli.  Once again, it was well received, as capturing the attention of young males is easy when you ask them to make slime.

As requested by the Seva Bharti group, we went down to the local field and played cricket for a good portion of the morning.  As I am not adept at playing cricket, the boys enjoyed watching me flounder while they attempted to teach me the game.

This group is a bit more competitive than the Kalyehli orphanage, and it is important we make sure that they fully include the younger boys in the activities.  The age structure of this orphanage can make it tough for the young ones, as the majority are teenagers.

For our afternoon time with the Kalyehli Orphanage, we decided to continue on our theme of fruits and vegetables, by having a day long competition!

We split the group into two teams and held three rounds.  We had team "Michael" and team "Becca".  The children really enjoy sparking competition between Becca and me, so we gladly play along.

Round one consisted of each team getting a list of the various fruits and vegetables in English.  They were then required to draw, label, and color each of the items correctly onto large sheets of paper we provided within 20 minutes.  The two groups did a great job of working together.

Round two, the favorite of the boys, involved a blind taste testing of different fruits and veg, which they then had to shout the name of in English.
Round three was essentially team pictionary, again using our new vocabulary.

Three rounds of this game was more than enough, as by the end, they just wanted a definitive winner.  Team "Becca" prevailed and celebratory proceedings immediately took place.  We had to quell the uproar as the revelry soon took the form of emphatic hip thrusting by all.  Again, another fantastic day spent with this group.
